Pre-health · Summer 2028 pilot · Florence, Italy
A pre-health program run directly by an accredited Italian university: real university coursework, guided hospital experiences, and a named Italian physician as your mentor.
Why it works
Medical schools do not admit hours of passive observation. They admit a story: academic substance, sustained mentorship, and evidence you can work inside another healthcare culture.
Medical Italian and the Italian healthcare system for university credit, plus a graded anatomy and pharmacology survey taught by physicians - with the full syllabus your home institution needs for credit review.
Small-group visits arranged with each partner hospital - from simulation centres and teaching facilities to structured observation, and ward observation where the hospital's medical direction authorises it.
A named Italian MD follows you for the whole program: regular one-to-one meetings, CV review, and eligibility for a personal letter of recommendation.
Study in Italy
You are enrolled at a Ministry-recognised Italian university, not placed by a broker. Coursework, transcript and a named mentor: a semester that reads as substance on a medical-school application.
How it compares
| Typical shadowing program | Medical Immersion Italy | |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs it | A third-party broker placing you in hospitals | An accredited Italian university with its own campuses |
| Academic record | Certificate of participation | University transcript, plus graded course syllabi for your credit review |
| Physician contact | Rotating host physicians, different every week | One named MD mentor for the full program |
| Letter of recommendation | Generic, if any | Personal letter from your mentor, earned over weeks |
| Your application story | "I watched procedures abroad" | "I studied medicine at an Italian university, with an Italian physician as my mentor" |
Hospitals & mentors
Every hospital component is agreed formally with the hosting institution and follows Italian patient-privacy and medical-direction rules. That is not a limitation - it is the reason a hospital can welcome you at all, and the reason your experience holds up in an interview.
Small groups, always accompanied, in the settings each hosting hospital authorises:
Built for your application
Cultural awareness, communication across a language barrier, graded scientific coursework with full syllabi for your credit review: every part of the program maps to the AAMC premed competencies - interview material, not a gap in your story.
